Why Your Weight Can Stop Moving

A scale reading is a measurement of total body mass at one moment. It isn't a direct measurement of body fat.

Short-term fluctuations are normal

Water, glycogen, food in the digestive tract, sodium intake, and other factors can move scale weight even when body-fat mass has barely changed.

Look for a trend

Comparing individual weigh-ins can create false alarms. A consistent measurement routine and a multi-week trend can be more informative.

What counts as a genuine plateau?

There isn't one universal number of days that defines a plateau. Context matters: starting weight, calorie intake, activity, measurement error, and the timeframe all matter.

Try it: Enter a set of weigh-ins into the Weight Trend Analyzer. It uses a simple linear trend estimate and explains the result without pretending the scale can reveal body fat directly.

Don't let a plateau push you toward extreme measures

More restriction isn't automatically better. Sustainable changes, adequate protein, resistance training when appropriate, sleep, and realistic expectations are usually more useful than reacting to one week of scale data.
